Director's Statement

I wanted to make a positive and energetic film.

What brought those 2 French chefs (Daniel Pont and William Rolle) to Sacramento in California, and how did they succeed with a one-man operation?

I was intrigued by their journey being myself from France. Immigrants struggle at the beginning to get settled. But immigrants also bring “wealth” to their host country: they bring new tastes, new ideas and new ways of life.

I explored another theme: in the home country of fast food, there is a trend towards uniformization for food and products. But the passion and enthusiasm of a few individuals creates an interesting resistance.

In the very competitive restaurant business both Daniel Pont and William Rolle managed to attract customers who rave about them and their food.

What struck me when I met with both of them are their authenticity, simplicity, humility, enthusiasm and their love for their jobs & customers.
